The Legend of the Imperial Chrysanthemum
It is said that Emperor Go-Toba, while walking through the imperial gardens one day, came upon a flower he had never seen before: a golden chrysanthemum with sixteen perfect petals, like a miniature sun. As he gazed at it, a man dressed in white appeared silently from the shadows of the bamboo.
"This flower does not wither," the man said in a calm voice. "It is the symbol of light that never dies. Only he who carries the blood of the sun may guard it."
Then he vanished, leaving only the chrysanthemum, glowing even more brightly in the setting sun.
From that day on, the flower became the sacred symbol of the Emperor of Japan, an emblem of purity, eternity, and divine power. Even today, the chrysanthemum lives on in temples, on passports, and in the dreams of those who believe in the mystery of tradition.
